What is plantar fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of a thick band of tissue which runs on the bottom of your feet. It is the most common cause of pain in your heel. This condition is often caused by overuse or from an underlying structural abnormality of the foot. A classic sign is when you have a sharp pain on the bottom of your feet during your first steps of the morning.

How can it be treated?

  • Stretching exercises

  • Custom inserts (3D scan)

  • RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation)

  • Shoe modification

  • Medications including NSAIDS and/or steroids

  • Pads/Braces

  • Night splint

  • Walking boot

  • Injections (both steroidal or non-steroidal)

  • Non-invasive EPAT therapy (Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Treatment) also known as a shock wave therapy

  • Surgical repair
